Aurora Holcombe

September 15, 1934 — March 12, 2021

Aurora “Rory” Holcombe, 86, of Leesville, passed away peacefully at Lexington Medical Center with her loving family by her side. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, March 15th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Jackson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. and other times at her home. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Holcombe’s granddaughters, Angela H. Moak, Megan S. Burkett and Amanda H. Hite.

Mrs. Holcombe was born in Batesburg, SC on September 15, 1934. She was a daughter of the late Edward and Lona Smith Hartley and was a 1953 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School. Mrs. Holcombe worked for Dr. Eliza Spradley at Fair Drug in Batesburg in the 50's and was also employed by J.B. Martin in Leesville for over 30 years where she retired in 1996. She loved working in her yard, planting flowers and anything that had to do with being outside in the sunshine. Mrs. Holcombe also enjoyed putting together puzzles, word searches and crossword puzzles and was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and his music. Mrs. Holcombe had the most wonderful and infectious smile and laugh that one couldn’t help but love. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who loved spending time with them as well as all her friends.

Surviving are her loving husband of 66 years, Bobby Lee “Bob” Holcombe of Leesville; son, Ricky (Darlene) Holcombe of Leesville; daughter, Traci (Tim) Smith of Leesville; granddaughters, Angela H. (Josh) Moak of Martinez, GA, Megan S. (Blake) Burkett of Leesville, and Amanda H. (David) Hite of Leesville; great grandchildren, Colten, Paisley and Easton Moak, Emmy Claire and Holdyn Burkett, and Hampton Hite; sister, Priscilla H. (Richard) Myers of Batesburg, SC; sisters-in-law, Jerri Hartley of Batesburg, SC, and James Ann H. (Mike) Sheley; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Hartley; sister and brother-in-law, Freddie H. and Carson Corley; great granddaughter, Hannah Raine Moak; and nephew, Ron Hartley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Cancer Society of America, Alzheimer’s Association or the Dementia Society of America.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the love and compassion from all the doctors and nurses at Lexington Medical Center in her final days.
