Betty Jean Hartley Rodgers

Betty Jean Hartley Rodgers, 83, of Batesburg, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, January 27, at Samaria Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery with Rev. John Yorio officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robert Padgett, Allen Oxendine, Chuck Bryant, Terry Kirkland, Johnny Ligon, and Terry Rodgers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Samaria Baptist Church Deacons, active and inactive.

Mrs. Rodgers was born in Batesburg, SC, daughter of the late Woodrow and Ida Hall Hartley. She was an active member of Samaria Baptist Church. Mrs. Rodgers loved her family, church, reading and gardening. She was a caring, kind and generous Christian woman who sacrificed much for her family.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years Ray Rodgers; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Hartley; Debbie (Larry) Poole; Joy (Allen) Shumpert; daughter-in-law, Celia Rodgers all of Batesburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances (Doug) Rogers of Aiken; Elaine (Malcolm) Bryant of Batesburg; Barbara Sizemore of Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip (Alice) Hartley of Saluda; grandchildren, Ryan (Mary) Hartley; Brenn Hartley; Amber Hartley; Sarah Poole; Beth Poole; Kaitlyn Shumpert; and great grandchildren, Morgan Godwin and Rayns Hartley. She was preceded in death by her son, Gene Ray Rodgers and brother, Nelson Hartley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 26, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at the home of her daughter, Cindy Hartley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaria Baptist Church, 6560 Fairview Road, Batesburg, SC 29006.
