Elsie Baughman Smith

Elsie Baughman Smith of Batesburg passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the age of 103 peacefully in her home. Mrs. Smith was born in Wagner, SC to James and Ava Baughman on July 31, 1912. She married Flemming Smith, December of 1932. Elsie was the oldest member of West Creek Baptist Church and loved by all who knew her. Surviving are her children, Wade D. (Janel) Smith of Lexington; Freida S. Buzhardt Tanner of Batesburg; Leonard Smith of Ward; sister, Fannie Gantt of Fairview; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and four great great grandsons. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, sisters and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Milford Oswalt officiating. Visitation will be held after the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Creek Baptist Church, 248 Church Road, Batesburg, SC 29006. Cry not for me my cherished children, for I am with Christ. Remember to always be yourself, to follow your own path and be particular.
