James "Roy" Smith

November 21, 1935 — January 17, 2015

James "Roy" Smith, 79, of Newberry, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 20, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dan Gardner and Rev. Tim Bush officiating. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Smith, Lindsey Smith, Jackie Smith, Tres Ann Smith, Robby Smith, and Richard Caughman. Honorary pallbearers will be Gill Thomson, David Spals, Steve Clegg and Robert Dyer. Mr. Smith was born in Lexington County, son of the late William Drayton and Julia Smith. He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Study Class. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work and working on the church. He was a devoted husband and father. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Myers Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald (Charlene) Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia (Randy) Reames; brothers and sisters-in-law, William D. (Joyce) Smith of Lexington; Robert (Gloria) Smith of Leesville; grandchildren, Josh (Katie) Smith; Jessica (Nathan) Luke; great grandchildren, Brinlee Smith; Brylee Smith; and Bradley Smith. He was preceded in death by sister, Carrie Lee Ruth. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 19, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hollywood Baptist Church Building Fund, 340 Hunters Lane, Saluda, SC 29138. The family would like to give a special thanks to Tri-county Hospice Care, Amanda and Kelly.
