Pauline Boland Mcgee

March 30, 1921 — September 22, 2016

Pauline Boland McGee, of Ridge Spring, S.C, passed away September 22, 2016. A 4:00 PM graveside service will be held at Ridge Spring Cemetery on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

Mrs. McGee was born in Monetta, SC, a daughter of the late Julian and Cora Sims Boland. She was employed with Aiken County School District. Many of her former students still remember all the wonderful stories that she read to them and the help that she provided during their trips to the Ridge Spring Elementary and Middle School Library.

She was a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church. Upon her ninetieth birthday, she was a presented a lifetime membership to The Green Thumb Garden Club. She was instrumental in organizing the annual Ridge Spring Area Christmas Tour of Homes, obtaining a By-Way Blue Star Marker that is placed on the grounds of Immanuel Lutheran Church, planting of the Healing Dream Stop Garden, and restoring a Blue Star Memorial Marker on US Highway One near Monetta, SC. She also took great pride in the establishment of her registered Backyard Habitat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Buford B. McGee, Sr., and son, Buford B. McGee, Jr., sister, Sarah Orander, and brothers, Julian and Frank Boland.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan (Ronald) Cathey of Lexington, SC.; daughter-in-law, Ann McGee of Aiken; sister-in-law, Sybil Boland of Bowman; grandchildren Kimberly (David) Boothe, Kelly (Dennis) McWatters and Blake (Amy) Cathey; great grandchildren Lindsey and Chad Boothe, Logan and Aubrey McWatters, Allen Jones, Madelyn and Joshua Cathey, and great, great grandson, Ryan Boothe. Also, a number of nieces and nephews and very special friend, Maggie Cyrus.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 23 at Milton Shealy Funeral Home in Batesburg, SC. from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to either the Green Thumb Garden Club, Ridge Spring, SC 29129 , Boy’s Farm, Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108 or Hospice Care of Tri-County, 166 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210.
