Pauline Stone Roof

Our Heavenly Father needed a beautiful angel to join Him in heaven and on Friday, July, 22, 2016, Pauline Stone Roof, 85, of Batesburg, passed away peacefully.

Mrs. Pauline was a faithful member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church and could always be found on the fifth pew of the church every Sunday. She was active in every aspect of the church: nursery keeper, kitchen helper, Weekday Church School, WELCA, Operation Reach Out, and countless other activities. When it came to her church, you could depend on seeing her there. For every event, one request of Mrs. Pauline was made, a Sour Cream Pound Cake for which everyone anxiously awaited their slice.

Many people know Mrs. Pauline from her husband and now her son’s Hardware store on Main Street in Batesburg, Roof Hardware. She could be found helping customers with finding the right roofing nail, paint color, pipe fitting, or pocket knife. She loved talking with everyone who entered the store and making sure their family was doing well. To put it simply, she loved people, all people.

When she was not serving at her church or at the Hardware store, you could count on finding her in her garden. She loved planting tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, okra, and all sorts of flowers. Whether it was shelling peas, butter beans, canning tomatoes, or putting up okra, she loved to have her vegetables available and subsequently sharing her harvest with family and friends was a highlight of her day.

She is survived by her four children, Mr. John Roof (Carol), Mrs. Verta Eargle (Watson), Mr. Jack Roof (Terri), and Mr. Rex Roof; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Coleman, Leslie Smith (Trey), Zachary Roof, Grayson Roof, Brandon Roof, Ben Roof, Tim Roof, and Jon Roof; sisters, Mary McCormick, Frances Rudd (Ernest), Helen Fuller, and Ellen Gunter (Tommy). She also was blessed with two great-grandchildren which she adored, Emily Coleman and Walker Smith. Mrs. Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Doyle and Bessie Stone; husband, Coke Robert Roof; sisters, Sallie-Mae Jones and Marilyn McCormick; and brothers, Harley Stone, George Stone, Doyle Stone, and Marion Stone.

eceived in Faith Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall before the service at 2:00-3:15 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2016. Funeral services will be immediately following at 3:30 PM at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Lisa Isenhower officiating. A burial service will be held at Ridge Crest Memorial Park. Mrs. Pauline’s pallbearers will be her treasured Grandsons.
