Shelby Jean Cockrell, 84, of Batesburg, went to her Heavenly Home Wednesday, January 13, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, January 16th, at Hulon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Earl Hartley, Rev. Robert Patterson, and Rev. Robert Culbertson officiating. Visitation will be held following the service at the graveside, and other times at her home. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are encouraged. Active pallbearers will be John Hartley, David Gulledge, Jody Temples, Johnny Brock, Melvin Hallman, Dave Bouknight, David Rankin, and Johnny Dillon.
Mrs. Cockrell was a daughter of the late Williard Jesse Brunson and Marie Bunch Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Doyle Cockrell. Mrs. Cockrell was a member of Hulon Baptist Church and the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her sons, J.D. Cockrell Jr. (Dawn M. Hall), Pat Cockrell; daughter and son-in-law, June Furtick (Phil); six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Lillie Mae Branham, Diane Rodgers, Betty Jean Scully, and Jeanny Kunder of Germany. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny Hall, Odell Brunson; a sister, Alice Faye Huckabee; and a great granddaughter, Jessa Furtick
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hulon Baptist Church Building Fund or the ALS Foundation.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Gail Anderson, Beryl Roberts, and Agape Hospice Care for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Cockrell. Also, a special thanks to her long-time best friend, Alice “Tootsie” Shealy.
