Smith Donald Goff

August 9, 1936 — October 26, 2021

Smith Donald Goff, 85, went home to sup with the Lord on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. He was born in Batesburg and was preceded in death by his father, Homer Lee Goff; his mother, Mary Anna Duffy Goff; his brother, Doyle Lee Goff; his sister, Ann Goff Kraus, and his son-in-law, Freddie J Beck.

Donald farmed and retired from JB Martin Co. He was a member of Ridge Farmer’s Mutual and Ridge Mutual Ginnery, a lifetime member of Farm Bureau serving at one time as treasurer for the state, and the chairman of the Friends of the Ansel Murphy Scholarship fund for Clemson University. He received recognition from the Young Farmers of America in the 60's for having one of the first modern electric shops, with the ability to drive a tractor all the way through.

Donald was also very civic-minded. He was a member of the Civil Defense reaction team, a member of the Civitan’s that supported local Dixie Youth Baseball, and he assisted with building a baseball field in the neighborhood. He was honored to serve on the board of trustees for Lexington School District 3, Batesburg-Leesville, with other visionaries like himself. They created the plans, purchased the property, and drafted the plans for the current High School, Stadium, Gymnasium, and Arts Center. The High School opened in the fall of 1975.

Donald’s greatest love was his family and his church family. He always attended every game, recital, or ceremony for his children and grandchildren. He taught us to respect everyone and to be accountable for our actions. He was dedicated to West Creek Baptist Church and his church family. He sang in the choir and was the director at one time. He served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director. and worshiped the Lord with fervor. In addition, he made himself available throughout the week to serve the maintenance needs of the church.

Donald lived a rich life, filled with laughter and an abundance of love. We were blessed by his exemplary display of fortitude and faith and will hold him in our hearts until we meet again.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Agnes Goff; sons and daughters, Mike (Meri) Goff, Glenn Goff, Windy Goff Beck, and Brenda Goff Kosnosky; grandchildren, Lyle Goff, Sara Kosnosky, Will Kosnosky and Claire Goff. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Lorraine Goff; nephew, Mac Moore; and nieces, Melinda Marks and Mary Kraus Pachol.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 30th, at West Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bob Woodyard and Rev. Hank Fanning will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to West Creek Baptists Church, 400 Church Rd, Batesburg Leesville, SC 29006.
