Wilken Cockrell, Jr, of Gilbert, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 6:30 P.M. Sunday, August 17, at Mt. Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Bredholt officiating. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, Chris Cockrell, Jamie Cockrell, Dickie Oswalt, Ted Lawson, and Herman Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Holley. Mr. Cockrell, "Jr" was born on August 8, 1925 in Monetta, SC and was the son of the late Fletcher "Dock" Cockrell and Nannie Willis Cockrell Bedenbaugh. Mr. Cockrell was a devoted WWII Marine Veteran, a member of VFW post 6740, and a loyal Clemson fan. But most importantly he was a very loving father, grandfather and devoted spouse. He was our rock, our guider, and the loving lifeline of our family. No words can express the loss we will feel. Mr. Cockrell was employed by Imperial Casket Company and retired from O.L. Holley and Sons. Surviving are his wife, Lois Koon Cockrell; children, Jerry Cockrell, Karen C. Lawson, Larry G. (Sandra) Cockrell, Cynthia C. (Carroll "Tommy") Thompson; grandchildren, Autumn (Merriwan) Cockrell, Charlene (Dickie) Oswalt, Chris (Stephanie) Cockrell, Jamie (Dottie) Cockrell, Stephanie Scoggins, Stacy Scoggins; great grandchildren, Dalton Will (Juner's Boy) Oswalt, Alex, Chase, Jessi, Corey, Marshall, Marilyn, Ashley, Michael, Jada, Damian, and Kade; and his feline baby, Spook. He was preceded in death by brother, Ralph Cockrell; and sisters, Gladys Burkett and Daisy Trotter. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Saturday, August 16, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 2347 Summerland Highway, Leesville, SC 29070.
