Anita Philips was a selfless, humble, patient, and loving child of God. On February 24th, she ran into the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Anita faithfully served her family, church, and community. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Pete and Melrose Buzhardt, and by her husband of 29 years, Jack Philips. She is survived by her loving children, Josh (Karen) and Jessica; and her three cherished grandchildren, Tate, Keiley, and Keira, who were truly her pride and joy. Also surviving are her brothers, Wayne Buzhardt (Karen), Joel Buzhardt (Joni), and Wyman Buzhardt (Crystal), along with numerous extended family members.
Anita dedicated more than 30 years of service to the South Carolina Employment Security Commission. She was a devoted member of East Side Baptist Church, where she faithfully worshiped and served. She loved Bible journaling with her church family, singing in the choir, and participating in the Pearls of Grace ladies group.
Anita walked closely with Jesus and made sure her children were in church every time the doors were open. Her faith was not only something she professed, but something she lived daily. She had a heart for missions, and the country of Belize held a special place in her heart from the mission trips she took there.
She found joy in baking, reading, and watching old westerns. But more than anything, she treasured time with her grandchildren. She attended every one of their events, faithfully picked them up from school, baked with them, and delighted in their frequent sleepovers. Being their “Grandma” was one of her greatest blessings.
A graveside service will be held at 10 o'clock on Saturday, February 28th at West Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mitch Bruner officiating.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. William Sawyer, Leanna Owings, FNP-C and the wonderful staff and nurses at Saluda Nursing and Rehab Center, who have lovingly cared for Anita and been her second family for the past three years. Anita will be deeply missed by her family and friends. While her absence leaves a tremendous emptiness in our hearts, we rejoice knowing she was welcomed into Heaven with a joyous celebration.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord will award to me on that day.”
