Funeral services for Mrs. Avis Maude Barron, 97, of Aiken, who died peacefully on February 27, 2010 will be private. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center is assisting the Wimborne Family. A daughter of the late Henry Clifford Turner and Emily Maria Knoesen Turner, she was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She served in the South African Air Force during WWII. She came to the United States in 1990 to live with her daughter.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Ernest Barron, two brothers, James Turner and George Turner and a sister, Barbara Clarke.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Maree Wimborne, MD and her husband Hereward, Sr.; four grandchildren, Ross, Margaret, Hereward, Jr. and Powell-Wesley and three great grandchildren, Claire Margaret, Morgan Margaret and Thomas Jacob.
