Barbara Payer Scherpenberg

A memorial service for Mrs. Barbara Payer Scherpenberg will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 5pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken. The family will receive friends from 4 pm until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Surrounded by family, Mrs. Scherpenberg, 51, of Aiken, passed on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at her residence.

Born in Fayetteville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lt. Col . John Walter Payer and Connie Ray Hamm Payer. She lived in Hendersonville, TN, and Columbia, SC, before moving to Aiken over twenty years ago. She was an Engineer Manager for Washington Safety Management Solutions WSMS. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. Barbara was a devoted mother who enjoyed her friends and life. She also loved horses and driving her prized Corvette.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, William Patrick Payer. She is survived by her husband, Joseph "Joe'' Scherpenberg, son, Joey Scherpenberg, daughters, Emilee Scherpenberg, and Katie Scherpenberg all from Aiken; sister Kathy Lassiter, Hendersonville, TN, and brother, John Payer, Shepherdsville, KY.
