Belton Decater Clark, 79, of Pelion, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC, Belton was the son of the late D.E. Clark and Alma Craft Clark. He was the husband of the late Patsy Smith Clark. Belton was known for his love of cooking and good food, and in earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was also a huge fan of drag racing and had a lifelong love for Ford cars. Belton had a playful spirit and a gift for giving people memorable nicknames, which made everyone feel special.
He is survived by his children, James "Jamie" Clark (Missy) and Amy Nettles; and step-children, Melvin Vaughn (Cindy), Linda Vaughn (Bubulu), Clayton Vaughn (Alissa), and Tammy Slice (Kenny); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his children, Alice and David Clark, and his step-son, Tommy Vaughn.
The funeral service celebrating Belton's life will be held at 2 o'clock on Thursday, May 22nd, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Florence Baptist Church Cemetery, 1720 Windy Wood Road, Pelion, SC 29123. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be: J.W. Nettles, Logan McCormick, Donald Ray Kyzer, Johnny Gartman, Tommy Gartman, Kenny Slice, Jake Fisher, Dewey Poole, and Josh Kyzer.
