Betty Jean Wood

July 24, 1949 — April 17, 2026

Aiken

Betty Jean Wood, 76, of Aiken, entered into eternal rest on April 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

Born on July 24, 1949, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Betty spent her early years at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, where she developed a deep and abiding faith in God that remained the cornerstone of her life. She began her career as an office assistant in pediatric and orthopedic practices before later pursuing her calling in healthcare. Returning to school, she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and faithfully served alongside Dr. Gordon for more than 20 years. She found great joy in her work and formed meaningful connections with the patients she so compassionately cared for.

Mrs. Wood was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, reading, gardening, and gathering with her Bible study group. A faithful member of Millbrook Baptist Church, she lived her life with unwavering strength, courage, and a steadfast trust in God. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bruce Wood; her daughters, Christy Geddes and Misty Stutts; her siblings, Dennis Roakes, Jesse Roakes, Joanne Holley, and Gail Deno; and her cherished grandchildren, Blake Strawhorn, Ethan Geddes, Dylan Geddes, Hailey Stutts, Ava Stutts, and Grace Geddes. In addition to her mother, Audrey Roakes, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Deanna Strawhorn.

The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Wood will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, April 25th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Chris Masters will officiate. Family and friends are invited to a visitation prior to the service from 1 until 2 o'clock at the funeral home.
