It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Carl "Pete" Ernest Soper, of Batesburg, announces his passing on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in Forrest City, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Samuel Lawrence Soper, Sr. and Lola Mae Trusty Soper.
After graduating from school in Arkansas, Pete joined the United States Army in 1969, where he also began his career as a truck driver. After leaving the Army, he continued as a full-time truck driver until his retirement. Pete had a deep passion for classic trucks, enjoyed tinkering with his vehicles, and took pride in caring for his livestock during his retirement. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. Pete's smile lit up every room, and there was never a dull moment in his presence.
Pete will be dearly missed and remembered by his loving wife of 49 years, Vickey. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Brad Soper (Heather) and Kim Pack (Jason); and his beloved grandchildren, Merideth, Landon, and Carley Soper, and Porter, Josey, and Jake Pack. Also surviving are his siblings, Beverley Joyce Matthews, David Soper, Donald Soper, and Kenneth Soper; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel L. Soper, Jr., Walter E. Soper, and Thomas A. Soper.
The service for Pete will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, January 31st, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 o'clock. Friends are also welcome to visit the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Heather Soper, located at 209 Lockett Road, Batesburg, SC 29006.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or made online at www.stjude.org.
Pete's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the support and kindness shown during this difficult time.
"My loving arms will hold you, when we meet again. Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye; Look for me in the rainbows, shining in the sky. Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you."
