Chalma Rhyne Lindler

Chalma Rhyne Lindler, 84, of Aiken, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, great‑great‑grandmother, teacher, and friend, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Born in Mooresville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde DeLeon Rhyne Sr. and Chalma Stonestreet Rhyne. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Affectionately known as “Gigi” (with a hard G), she loved deeply and without condition. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or one of her students, once you were in her heart, you never left it. She and Al dreamed of a large family, and that family became her greatest joy. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

A proud alumna of the University of South Carolina, Mrs. Lindler retired as a special educator with the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind, traveling across the state to teach, support, and advocate for children with visual impairments. Her life was marked by faith, devotion, service, and a love that made everyone around her feel cherished.

She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example and forever grateful for the gift of her love.

Mrs. Lindler is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Dr. Alvin Lindler Sr. of Aiken; and their five children: Chalma “Jan” Johnston of North Augusta, Jenifer Parkman (Donald) of Aiken, Alvin “Neal” Lindler Jr. of Jackson, GA, Clyde “Rhyne” Lindler (Lydia) of Aiken, and Matthew Lindler (Cheryl) of North Augusta. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 12 great‑grandchildren, one great‑great‑grandchild; her brother, Dr. Craig Rhyne Sr. (Linda); sister‑in‑law, Harriet Rhyne of Mount Pleasant; and her best friend, Connie Freeman of Beech Island.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Stonestreet Lindler; and her brothers, Clyde Rhyne Jr. and Charles “Chuck” Rhyne.

The funeral service for Mrs. Lindler will be held at 11 o’clock on Monday, September 14, 2026, in the sanctuary of St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Erbskorn officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM, in the Fellowship Center. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery, 238 Hampton Ave. NW, Aiken, SC 29801. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, is assisting the Lindler family.
