Cletus Cohen Newton

Funeral services for Mr. Cletus Cohen Newton will be held 2 PM, Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC. Family and friends will officiate. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, SC is assisting the family.

Mr. Newton, 97, of Aiken, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center.

Born in Casar, NC, he was the son of the late William Nolan and Zulie Wall Newton. He moved to Aiken in 2001 from Hickory, NC. He attended and graduated from Casar High School. He married the late Amy Eugenia Teague on September 1, 1940. He was a dedicated Volunteer Fireman and a member of the Lion?s Club. He served in the United States Army during WWII, in the Asiatic Theater in New Guinea and Luzon.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Newton was also predeceased by his daughter Mary A. Mackey, and seven siblings. He is survived by a daughter Virginia Ruth Dickinson, Hickory NC, three grandchildren; Samantha M. Hillaire, Annissa L. Wood and Rebecca Dickinson, great granddaughter, Hannah Wood, and his son-in-law, Hal Mackey.
