Darrell Stan "Homer" Rodgers

January 28, 1954 — June 23, 2025

Saluda

Darrell Stan “Homer” Rodgers, 71, of Saluda, SC, peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with his health. Born in Edgefield, SC, he was the son of the late James Stanmore Rodgers, Jr. and Lila Bledsoe Rodgers.

Darrell will be greatly missed and leaves his family and friends with unforgettable, fond memories of his life on this earth. If you ever met Darrell, chances are he left a lasting impression as someone who deeply loved his family, friends, and the Lord. Among his coworkers, he was known as a strong leader and mentor. Many affectionately referred to him as their “work dad,” always offering advice, discussing life’s struggles, and, when needed, delivering a good ol’ fashioned chewing out.

Darrell had a gift for storytelling, spinning “tall tales” with a straight face and making you believe every word — earning him the nickname “Honest Darrell.” He was an entertainer at heart, especially at family and neighborhood gatherings.

Raising cattle alongside his brother, Billy, and doing the hard work that came with it brought him great joy. Darrell enjoyed watching drag racing, attending his grandson’s ball games, and spending time with the people he cherished most. He also cherished time with his wife, Terri, at their "home away from home" in Ocean Lakes. In his younger days, he was known for his love of fast cars, motorcycles, and big, loud trucks. He leaves behind a granddaughter whose personality is beginning to mirror the traits of her beloved “Pop.”

Without a doubt, Darrell’s kind and caring heart endeared him to a wide circle of family and friends throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Terri McCary Rodgers; his daughter and the apple of his eye, Lachelle Rodgers White (Austin); and his two adored grandchildren, Hudson and Kennedy, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his godson, Joshua Pratt; siblings, Shelby J. Yonce, Joan Rhoden (Ray), Mary H. Kirkland, Victoria Blanton (Scott), and Billy L. Rodgers; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lorie Hatfield, Carroll McCary (Sandra), and Darrell McCary (Minnie); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth L. Rodgers and James C. “Sonny Boy” Rodgers; and brothers-in-law, Hubert Yonce, Jr. and Raiford Kirkland.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, June 28th at Celebration Church, with burial to follow at Bethlehem Methodist Church, 159 Bethlehem Church Road, Johnston, SC 29832. Rev. Joseph Hallman will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM in the church fellowship hall.
