David Wendell Corder, 83, of Batesburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Born in Batesburg, SC, he was a son of the late Andrew Wellens and Luvenia Willis Corder. He owned and operated Corder’s Body Shop with his brothers for many years and, in the early 1970s, started Wendell’s Amusement Company. Along with his brothers and friend, L.C. “Buck” Hawkins, he ran the business until his retirement.
Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Baughman (Mark), Sylvia Stone, Teresa Maroney (Mike), and Debbie Maroney (Kimbo); and stepdaughter, Tabi Storey. He is also survived by his sister, Melinda C. Fox (Harold); nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Hartley Corder; brothers, John Lewis Corder and Melvin Thomas Corder; and a sister, Sara Lou Corder.
The service for Mr. Corder will be held at 3 o’clock on Friday, February 6th, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel, with Pastor Jacob Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2 o’clock. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Miles, David Miles, Matthew Maroney, Aiden Stone, Jason Womack, and Travis Taylor.
Special thanks to Ms. Ellie for the love and care she showed to our daddy and us for over two years. She was truly a Godsend and is deeply loved.
