Edwin Price McGee

September 17, 1936 — March 31, 2026

Batesburg-Leesville

Edwin Price McGee, 89, entered into eternal peace and rest at his home on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Edwin was born on September 17, 1936, to the late Price and Minnie Lee McGee. He married the love of his life, Maxine LaFuchia Boozer, on April 5, 1957.

He proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard from 1954 to 1963. Early in his career, he worked alongside his brother, Rod, in the trucking business before beginning a 33-year career at J. B. Martin Company, where he worked as a loom fixer and later as a supervisor. Following his retirement, Edwin and his son Greg owned and operated McGee Excavation. A faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church of Batesburg, Edwin served on the Church Council and the Building Committee. He enjoyed farming and gardening and could often be found on his John Deere tractor. Edwin and Maxine shared many happy years traveling and camping, visiting all fifty states together and celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine McGee; his sons, Gregory McGee (Sabrina) and Joel McGee; and his daughter-in-law, Vickie H. McGee. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Whitney McGee, Cody McGee (Kayla Lewis), and Jennifer Bird (Jarrad Worley); as well as his beloved great-grandchildren, Aiden McGee, Kylie, T.J., and Addy Bird. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roderick McGee (Sarah) and Charles McGee (Zelma); and his sisters, Edith Corley (Jesse), Helen Winstead (Bernard), and Betty Washington (Alan).

A funeral service to celebrate Edwin’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, at Faith Lutheran Church, with burial to follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Rev. Lisa Isenhower will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Active pallbearers will be: Al Boozer, Tim Hall, Benjamin McGee, Cody McGee, Jarrad Worley, and Dale Winstead.

Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.

Second Timothy 4:7 beautifully illustrates Edwin’s life and faith: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
