Ernest Guay

Ernest Joseph Paul Guay of Lexington County and Adams Run, S.C., was born October 31, 1941, to Norman J. And Cecile I. Couture Guay in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and died December 1, 2023, in Charleston, S.C. Ernest was born and raised in Massachusetts. After high school, he became a bread and roll baker for a Jewish Bakery and was promoted to head donut maker. He really enjoyed this job. He served in the US Air Force for 20 years and 6 months, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). Throughout his life, he enjoyed woodworking as his grandfather and uncles were carpenters. He was a graduate of The University of West Florida. His family continues to enjoy using the bookcases, toy boxes, and other doll furnishings. He was an avid reader. He was an Episcopalian. He was a member of The Richland/Lexington Republican First Tuesday group and had been a member of the Lexington Chapter of the SC Wildlife Association.


Ernest is survived by his partner, Anna Taylor Blythe, and her children, JoAn Baxter Roland (Sam), and their sons, Sammy (Ashley), and Matt; James “Bo” Baxter (Rose), and Savanna Baxter; Hugh Baxter (Michele) and their children, Hannah (Parker), Taylor Baxter (Katie), and Curtis; Baylee Ann Okon, and her sons; his sister, Anne Marie Guay Kaplan, and her two grandsons; and granddaughter, Rylee Kaplan and son, Joseph “Joe”; his son, Michael Guay (Heather), and their sons, Sean and Evan; his late wife’s children, whom he loved as if they were his own, Pam Anderson, Richard Schumpert (Kim), and Marty Schumpert, and their children and grandchildren, Karly Long Richardson (Tyler), and their children, Wyatt, Allie, and soon to be twins; Kristy Long, and her children, Dylan Williams, Taylor Michael, Aubrey Harmon, and Jamie Moore; Bobby “BJ” Long, Jr. (Felicia), and their girls, Farah and Brayla Long; Jeremey Shumpert, Chelsea, Summer, and Matthew Schumpert, Aaron, Blake, and Laken Schumpert; his nephew, Joseph and his family; and his sister-in-law, Grace Bartly, and her family.


Ernest was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Norman Guay, and his late wife, Sandra Gail Miller Guay.


The service for Mr. Guay will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, December 5th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, 115 N. Pine St, Batesburg, SC, with Rev. Patricia Sexton officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Ridge Spring Cemetery, 3068 Highway 23, Ridge Spring, SC.
