Cayce

Gayle Walters Bright, lovingly known as "MiMi" and "Grammy Gayle," passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, in Cayce, South Carolina, at the age of 83. Born on September 27, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the second of three children to Aaron and Marian Player Walters. Gayle lived a life devoted to her family and faith. In 1961, Gayle and Ed Bright wed and went on to have three daughters. A graduate of Brookland Cayce High School, Gayle built a fulfilling career working at Lexington State Bank and later at Confidential Fibres. Her dedication and work ethic were evident in all she did, but her greatest joy came from her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gayle was deeply committed to her family and cherished every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her three daughters: Gwen Barrs (Ben), Denae Bright (Doug Jones), and Amy Kestner (Ricky), all of West Columbia, South Carolina. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Jason Barrs (Allison), Ryan Barrs, Michael Kestner (McNally Sowell), and Brandon Kestner; as well as three great-grandchildren: Foster Barrs, Will Barrs, and Caroline Barrs. Additionally, Gayle is survived by her sister, Beth McCurdy of Lake Murray, SC; son-in-law’s brother, Tommy Barrs (Sean); special nieces and nephews, Kellie, Ken, Erin, Sydney, Parker; and her lifelong friend, Linda Turner. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Walters; brother-in-law, Santa Fred McCurdy; great niece, Kennedy Branham; and former husband, Edward Bright. Gayle found joy in the simple pleasures of life, working in her yard and maintaining a spotless home were among her favorite pastimes. A longtime member of the Church of the Great God, she drew strength from her faith throughout her life. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Gayle's legacy is one of unwavering love and devotion to family. May Gayle’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
