George Bruce Amick

April 1, 1939 — June 9, 2025

Leesville

George Bruce Amick, 86, of Leesville, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025. Born in Gilbert, SC, he was the son of the late Clayburn and Eva Rosabell Frick Amick. He was the devoted husband of the late Barbara Ann Oxner Amick, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage filled with love, patience, and unwavering dedication.

Bruce loved God, his family, and music — passions that shaped his entire life. He picked up the guitar at just six years old, with “Lay That Pistol Down” as the first of many songs he’d go on to play. Over the years, he became a cherished figure in the local music scene, performing with groups such as A&M 3, Country Fever, Southern Charm, The Amicks, Carolina Trio, and Amick Junction. He brought joy to countless people through his music, especially in the many assisted living communities where he performed. Bruce became somewhat of a celebrity among his audiences, charming both older and younger listeners with his warmth and talent.

An early riser with a zest for life, Bruce always had a plan for the day — whether it was visiting one of his favorite local spots like Southern Thymes or Riley's on Main, or tracking down the perfect gravy biscuit. In his younger years, he enjoyed gardening and riding his tractor, and he especially cherished traveling to the mountains with his beloved wife and his sister Ann and her husband Marvin, or any willing traveler. Bruce was a musician, friend, son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and mentor. He lived with energy, love, and generosity, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Marty Amick (Maria) and April Caughman (Belton); daughter-in-law, Alene Amick; grandchildren, Brandon, Brent (Nicole), Jessica (Jacob), Hannah Amick, Amari, Zane, Lilly, Hannah Drafts, Roger, Maria (Andre) and Jamie (Lina); and great-grandchildren, Price, Micah, and a soon-to-arrive great-grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Adams (Marvin), and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Amick. In addition to his wife and parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his son, Anthony “Tony” Bruce Amick; and siblings, Frances Davis, Robert Amick, Thomas Amick, Hubert Amick, John Ray Amick, Martha Amick, Heyward Amick, and Carolyn Frick.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12th at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, with burial immediately following in the church cemetery. Rev. Leon Rawl will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. in the church fellowship hall and also following the service.
