Gilbert Byrd

Graveside services for Mr. Gilbert Byrd will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11am at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 22, 2010 from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken.

Mr. Byrd, 83, of Aiken, died Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.

Born in Branchville, SC, he was the son of the late Ernest Monroe Byrd and Lula Mae Tant Byrd. He moved from Branchville to Aiken in 1955. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. He owned and operated Byrd's barber Shop for fifty three years. He served his country in the Navy during World War II, and the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sarah H. Byrd. He is survived by his sons, Charles A. Byrd, Aiken; Leroy Byrd, Augusta, GA; Richard Byrd, Aiken; Chris Jacqueline Byrd, Greenville, SC; brothers Monroe Byrd, Maurice Byrd, William Byrd, sister, Betty Lou Walker, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
