Gordon Ellis Dawkins, 77, of Ward, SC, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025. Born in Newberry, SC, he was the son of Ruby Kunkle Dawkins and the late Gerald W. Dawkins. Gordon proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Veteran. Over the years, he worked as a subcontractor framing homes and as a long-distance truck driver. In his early years, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He also liked fishing, and was an avid Clemson fan. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gordon was a faithful member of Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church where he took part in the prayer warriors ministry.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Bodie Dawkins; children, Jeannie Dawkins Bock (Robert), Brian Ashley Dawkins (Gaby), and Amanda Dawkins Wenning (Garrett); three grandchildren, Timothy W. Storey (Ayisha), Connie S. Freeman, and Hailey E. Wenning; and great-grandchildren, Melani E. Freeman, Alec-Zander D. Freeman, and Timothy C. Storey. He is also survived by his mother, Ruby Dawkins; brother, Douglas Dawkins; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kimbrel Dawkins and sister, Gwen Dawkins.
The service to honor the life of Mr. Dawkins will be held at 11 o'clock on Thursday, October 2nd, at Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Curcio officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 o'clock in the sanctuary.
