Funeral services for Mr. Harold Booker Tinsley, Jr. will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 11am at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be directed to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Bus Fund. 2150 Columbia Highway 1 North, â?¨Aiken, South Carolinaâ?¨29805.

Mr. Tinsley, 85, of Aiken, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at the VA Medical Center, Downtown Division.

A son of the late Harold B. Tinsley, Sr and Juanita Ogelsby Tinsley, he was born in Langley and was a life long resident of Aiken County.

He was a proud veteran, serving as a gunner's mate in the Navy during WW II, receiving six battle stars and had worked as a self-employed contractor/painter. He maintained his own wood working shop and loved to work with his hands.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his wife, Essie Mae Tinsley, who died in 1994. He is survived by his children; Gaynell Powell, Aiken, Juanita Tinsley, Houghton, MI, Donna Mae Wade, Houghton, MI, Mark Tinsely, Houghton, MI, Gail Baima, Houghton, MI, Carol Wiseburn, Aiken, Lynn Gregory, Aiken and Chuck Tinsley, Aiken, two sisters; Catherine Durden, Langley and Shirley Goodman, Langley and a brother; Melfred Tinsley, Aiken. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
