James Burness Boatwright

September 16, 1924 — December 2, 2008

Funeral services for Mr. James Burness "Boatie" Boatwright will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 2pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken. The family will receive friends Friday, December 5, 2008 from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church Montmorenci. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.

Mr. Boatwright, 84, of Aiken, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at his residence.

A lifelong resident of Aiken County, he was the son of the late James B. and Myrtis Plunkett Boatwright. James retired from DuPont Savannah River Site after thirty five years of service in the Traffic and Transportation Department, and he also ran Boatwright's Grocery. He was an avid cattle farmer, who loved to hunt, fish, and work. He served his country in the Army during World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Boatwright, daughters, Barbara Day, Patricia Tucker, Nancy Boatwright, a son, James E. Boatwright, sister, Kate Hall, stepson, Marion Scott. He is survived by his fiancée, Bonnie Hardin, daughter, Eleanor "Ellie" Mickey D. Whisnant, Aiken; son, John Boatwright, Aiken; step son, Jerry Eugene Scott, Duluth, GA; sisters, Lula Holsenbach, and Helen Corder, eight grand children and seven great grandchildren.
