Leesville

James Ira "Jimmy" Martin, 74, of Leesville, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born in Leesville, SC, a son of the late Floyd Atlas and Christine Martin Davis. Jimmy was a devoted husband for 53 years and his adoration for his wife was plain to see for all that met him. In addition, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with kids and making them laugh.

Jimmy was also an avid hunter and fisherman. His love for the outdoors led to many happy times for him along with friends and family. When he wasn’t outside, he loved South Carolina Gamecock athletics. He was there for them in the thick and the thin. Jimmy was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church where he worked diligently to further God’s kingdom. He was a devoted Christ follower his entire adult life. He lived a life of service to others. Jimmy was a pipefitter and plumber for over 30 years working for Derrick Plumbing the majority of that time. He worked hard to support his family well. Jimmy was a Freemason for many years and achieved the highest degree of Master Mason with Saluda Lodge #103. He was a founding member of the Circle Volunteer Fire Department and served the community for many years.

Jimmy left a legacy with his family, friends and everyone that knew him. He always ran into someone he knew wherever he went, even out of the country. If he didn’t know someone, he set out to make a new friend. He lived life well and his community and this world is a better place because of him.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Molly Bedenbaugh Martin; children, Reggie Martin (Becky) of Leesville and Julie Martin of Aiken; along with his grandchildren, James (Holly), Todd and Darcy and great grandson, Atlas Martin. Also surviving are his sister, Loretta Martin Crowley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Calvin, Harley, Russell and Aven Martin.
