James David Matthews

James David Matthews, 49, of Saluda, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Born in Ridge Spring, he was the son of the late David James and Joyce Matthews.

David was a faithful member of Celebrations Church, where he was always among the first to volunteer and faithfully served on the church security team. He enjoyed shopping, working on trucks, and spending time with his beloved animals. Above all, David cherished his family. Five years ago, he met the love of his life, Burnette. It was love at first sight, and from that moment on, the two were inseparable, sharing a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Burnette Bush Matthews; uncle, Keith Matthews; father-in-law, Otis Bush; mother-in-law, Bonnie Stewart; brother-in-law, Otis Junior Bush (Tameka); sister-in-law, Pamela Ann Bush; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Cindy Bush.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, July 8th, at Celebrations Church, with burial to follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jamison Bowman will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 o'clock at the church. Active pallbearers will be Albert Kimber, Sammy Bush, James Calhan, Larry Williams, and Andy. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel, is assisting the Matthews family.
