Janice Hurt Slattery, 78, of Graniteville, South Carolina, entered into rest on May 5, 2026. Born in Pensacola, Florida, on February 26, 1948, she was a daughter of the late George and Ruth Headden Hurt. Janice was a woman who found joy in life’s quiet beauty. She had a deep love for nature and animals, and she especially enjoyed flowers, gardening, and bird watching. Gifted with a natural artistic talent, she expressed herself creatively and found peace in the simple things. Though she was a private person who often kept to herself, she had a generous spirit and was always willing to help others in need. Above all, she dearly loved her children and cherished the time she spent with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and exploring new places throughout her life.

She is survived by her children, Patrick Slattery, Susan Slattery, Jan Cherry (Trooper), and Emerald Slattery; her grandchildren, Mya Humphrey, Demitri Humphrey, Summer McNeill (Cody), Reagan Cherry, Hayden Cherry, and Walker Cherry; her brother, Al Hurt; her sister, Donna Scott (Will); as well as many extended family members who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Patrick Laurence Slattery.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date, with inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, is serving the Slattery family.
