Jesse E. Winn

Funeral services for Mr. Jesse E. Winn will take place on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 2pm at Aiken's First Baptist Church with Dr. Rev. Fred Andrea officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Andrew Tibrea, Charlie Tibrea, Jack Thomas, David Manuel, Perry Gibson and Mike Winn. Honorary pallbearers will Butch Manuel, Jim Sneed, Elbert Windham, Bobbie Thomas, Marshall Cain, Scott Harrelson, Millege Austin and the members of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class at Aiken's First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Winn, 74, of Aiken, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Aiken.

A son of the late John Michael Winn and Clare Virginia Peeples Winn, he was born in Hampton, SC. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1953 and then graduated from Newberry College in 1957. While at Newberry, he was honored in the Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and was the Vice Chairman of the Newberry College Men's Council. A recipient of the Gov. James Byrnes Scholarship, he was also a member of the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity.

His career spanned from being a principal and teacher at the Yemassee Elementary School, 1957-1959, to being a field represenitive with Equifax Services, Inc. 1959-1980 to being a life insurance agent with Liberty Life Insurance company, 1980-1998, to a night manager at Country Inn and Suites, to being a host at Fatz's Café to a funeral assistant at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Jesse was a long time member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, a member of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class and a nursing home Sunday School Teacher. He was a former member of the SC Walking Horse Association, the SC Racking Horse Association and a former representative from the Racking Horse Association to the SC Horse Show Association. He was a former Junior Deacon and usher at Aiken's First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Barnes Winn, Aiken, a daughter, Lisi Winn Tibrea Steve, Aiken, a brother; John Michael Winn, Hampton, his step-mother; Debbie Terry Winn and two grandsons; Andrew Scott Tibrea and Charles Ryan Tibrea.
