John William Reed

John William Reed, 87, of Batesburg, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025. He was born to the late S.D. Reed and Ethel Lee Miller Reed.

Mr. Reed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by faith, service, and love for his family. He was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and the Army National Guard, reflecting his strong sense of duty and patriotism.

In everyday life, Mr. Reed found joy in simple pleasures—cutting grass, shopping, cheering on the Carolina Gamecocks, and, most of all, spending time with his family, who were the center of his life. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the deep love he shared with those closest to him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Rachel Taylor Reed; his children, Jon Kevin Reed (Terrie) and Denise Ann Prior; and his grandchildren, Rachel Caroline Reed, Hiram William Reed, Jada Sky Prior, and Draven Prior.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Eastside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church. A private burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors.
