Joy Ann Kohler

September 13, 1935 — November 26, 2025

Aiken

Joy Ann Dunn Masiero Kohler, born September 13, 1935, passed peacefully on November 26, 2025 in Aiken, South Carolina, at the age of 90.

She was the daughter of Lillie May Dunn Masiero and Christian Masiero. Joy was the beloved mother of Deb Kohler and Doil Leon ‘Bud’ Kohler (who preceded her in death) and beloved mother-in-law of Lee Grantham MD. She was blessed with many grandchildren—Casey Kohler, Kaila Kohler, Amber Carroll, Steven Crane, Kari Miller, Lacie Ambrose, Katie Boyd and Danielle Kohler (who preceded her in death), as well as numerous great grandchildren whom she adored.

Raised during the hardships of the Depression, she learned early on what resilience, faith and determination looked like, strengths she carried proudly throughout her life. In her lifetime her careers were many and varied: she was a licensed cosmetologist, a co-owner of a motorcycle dealership, a sales rep for a major jewelry company (often named the number one sales associate nationwide), a store manager for K-Mart, and a worker in a munitions plant making bullets.

Joy spent many years in Bethalto, Illinois, a place that held countless memories and shaped much of her journey. She was a woman of many interests--riding motorcycles, dancing whenever the music moved her, playing cards and games with her family, and tackling puzzles with a steady, determined mind. She kept herself busy, active and full of life in every stage of life. She took great pride in her appearance, always doing her own hair and makeup, her own signature style, perfected over a lifetime.

A faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran church, Joy kept Christ at the center of all she did. Her relationship with Jesus guided her decisions, directed her compassion, and gave her strength. She lived a long, meaningful life rooted in faith and family, with a fire that made her unforgettable. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved and the stories that will be shared for generations.

Joy’s funeral will be held Monday, December 8th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aiken, presided over by Rev. John B. Engwall. Visitation viewing is 10:30-12:30 with the funeral service following immediately at 12:30. After the service, there will be a funeral procession to her gravesite in Southlawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life / open house will take place at the home of Deb Kohler and Lee Grantham from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be served with refreshments and hospitality. All friends and family are welcome.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, is assisting the family.
