Joyce Corley Buzhardt

Our beloved Mama, Joyce Corley Buzhardt, 92, of Batesburg passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Troy Winton “TW” Buzhardt. Mama was born on October 20, 1930, in the Sardis Community of Saluda County. She was the daughter of the late F. Elmer and Juanita Addy Corley. Mama lived a very good and full life. She was a very strong woman and yet bubbled over with kindness. She loved people. Her love for her family and friends was very deep and was superseded only by her love and service to her Lord and Savior whom she served faithfully at West Creek Baptist Church for over 70 years. She served in many positions at West Creek. Her favorites were playing the piano and serving as a Sunday School teacher, both of which she did until her health began to decline.

Mama was very instrumental in the start up of King Academy in 1972. She loved this school and was a huge part of its success over the years. She impacted so many young lives with her love and support while they were students at WKA. On Tuesdays for the last 38 years, Mama could be found at Rawls Auto Auction. She thoroughly enjoyed this employment because she was surrounded by so many good and kind people who became her friends. Mama was also a bailiff for the Saluda County Clerk of Court and therefore could keep us all informed of who was in trouble. For over 50 years, Mama did the bookkeeping for Buzhardt Farms and assisted with the bookkeeping for Ridge Lumber. Mama was always very quick to offer her time and abilities to help anyone in need. Mama was very loved and will be greatly missed by all of us.

She is survived by her children, Troy R (Bobbye) Buzhardt, Hughie (Tammy) Buzhardt, Angela Buzhardt Shealy, Baron R (Kim) Buzhardt, Daryl R (Pamela) Buzhardt; sister, Daphyne (Buddy) Ridgell; sisters-in-law, Mae Buzhardt, Rafetta Buzhardt, Carole Buzhardt; grandchildren, Scott (Brantley) Buzhardt, Matt (Jessica) Buzhardt, Robin (Michael) Kinard, Misty Buzhardt McLaughlin, Mandy Buzhardt Dunbar, Brit (Lisa) Buzhardt, Deven “Tubby” (Ashleigh) Buzhardt, Peyton Buzhardt, Allyson (Daniel) Bartley, Elizabeth “Libby” (Austin) Shull, Carson Buzhardt, Ben Buzhardt, Emme Buzhardt; great grandchildren, Lyla Buzhardt, Winton “Bubba” Buzhardt, Walker Buzhardt, Cooper Buzhardt, Colton Buzhardt, Casen Buzhardt, Mattie Claire Buzhardt, Samantha McLaughlin, Derek McLaughlin, Kate Dunbar (Courtland) Connelly, Laci Dunbar, Gracyn Buzhardt, Bailee Buzhardt, Addyson Buzhardt, Colby Buzhardt, Blythe Buzhardt, Emma Buzhardt, Graham Bartley, James Bartley, Nate Shull, Jonah Shull; great great grandchildren, Traelyn and Hazel McLaughlin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Melrose Corley Buzhardt; brothers F. Paul Corley and Ronald N. Corley.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 , at West Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Kevin Hinton officiating. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Scott Buzhardt, Matt Buzhardt, Brit Buzhardt, Deven Buzhardt, Peyton Buzhardt, and Ben Buzhardt. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons, Cooper Buzhardt, Colton Buzhardt, Casen Buzhardt, Winton “Bubba” Buzhardt, Walker Buzhardt, Derek McLaughlin, Colby Buzhardt, Graham Bartley, James Bartley, Nate Shull, and Jonah Shull.
