Julia Shealy Derrick, 79, of Leesville, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, November 17, 2025. Mrs. Julia was born in Saluda County, the first daughter of the late Samuel Earl Shealy and Sarah Shealy Beckham. She was a graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School. Her career as a sewing room seamstress helped her and her husband, Lynwood, raise their three sons. Later she worked for Kleen Kare Dry Cleaners and always spoke of the love and joy she felt working with the people there.
Born with a severe hearing disability that was not discovered until her late teenage years, she overcame that challenge and became an excellent lip reader and, in turn, a truly lovely conversationalist. Her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her love for her family were unequaled.
Surviving are her sons, Barry Derrick (Shenia) and Earl Derrick (Kaitlin); her beautiful granddaughter, Chelsey Derrick (Parker); her firecracker grandson, EJ Derrick; and her sister, Sylvia Shealy. She will also be deeply missed by many additional members of her extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry “Lynwood” Derrick, and her son, Jeffrey Derrick.
The memorial service for Mrs. Julia will be held at 2 o’clock on Saturday, November 22nd at Rehoboth Methodist Church of Lake Murray with Rev. Dr. Linda Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 o’clock at the church. A private family burial will follow.
The family would like to thank the ICU and Hospice staff of Lexington Medical Center for their wonderful compassion and care. Memorials may be made to Hearing Health Foundation, PO Box 1397, New York, NY 10018, www.healthhearingfoundation.org/donate .
