Karen Denice Whittle

Karen Denice Whittle, 60, of Gilbert, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, surrounded by her children, Niki Stout and Jason Maroney, her beloved grandson, Cadence Stout, and those who loved and cared for her, Barbara and Heather. Though she had always feared leaving this world alone, she was held in the presence of those who loved her and cared for her during her final moments.

Born on December 12, 1965, Karen was the daughter of the late Joseph Buster Whittle, Jr. and Sharon Logue Whittle. She was a woman of strong convictions who lived life in her own way. Stubborn and hard-headed at times, Karen was also fiercely loyal and had a heart for helping others.

Karen's faith in God was an important part of her life. She loved her children and family deeply, and nothing brought her greater joy than her grandchildren. She especially adored her grandson, Cadence, who held a very special place in her heart.

Among the things Karen enjoyed most were following NASCAR and her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, spending time with animals, helping people whenever she could, and being surrounded by the people she loved.

Karen is survived by her children, Niki Stout and Jason Maroney (Anna); grandchildren, Cadence Stout, Katelyn Maroney, and Julie Chandler (Caleb); numerous great grandchildren; sister, Robin Whittle; and her niece, Brandi Whittle. In addition to her immediate family, Karen leaves behind a large and loving extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends whom she considered family. While too numerous to name individually, each held a special place in her heart, and they will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

Karen will be remembered for her unwavering loyalty, her strong personality, her love for God and her family, and the compassion she showed toward people and animals. Her memory will live on through the children and grandchildren she loved so dearly and through the many lives she touched along the way. May she rest in peace, knowing that she was loved and that her life made a lasting difference in the lives of those who loved her and cared for her during her final moments.

A visitation for Karen will be held from 11 until 1 o'clock on Friday, August 21st at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel.
