Lars Carter Gudal Jr., aged 62, passed away on October 20, 2024, near his home in Aiken, SC. Born on January 4, 1962, Lars was a man deeply rooted in kindness and loyalty, cherishing every moment spent with his family and friends. He had a profound love for the outdoors and a passion for storytelling, often sharing tales of his past and his experiences while in the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army. Lars graduated from Leesburg High School where he was a member of the football team. After high school he went into the army where he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. His military career was marked by his outstanding service as a paratrooper, earning him several accolades including the Combat Infantryman Badge for his deployment to Grenada in 1983 and the Multinational Forcers Observers Medal for his peacekeeping time in Egypt. His dedication to the Army was also recognized with the Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Jungle Warfare and Sharpshooters Badges.

After his time in the military, Lars continued to enjoy life, embracing hobbies like hunting, fishing, and reading. He shared a special love for his daughter, Lindsey Regan Gudal, bragging often about her. His last years were spent with and his beloved labrador mix, Jake.

He is survived by his father, Lars Carter Gudal Sr.; daughter, Lindsey Regan Gudal; sister, Marla Gudal Leger; and nieces, Gavin Lauren Leger, Gabrielle Leigh Gudal Becker, and Gentry Lauren Gudal. Lars was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Gillete Cyrus, and brother, Warner Steele Gudal.

A service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd., Columbia, SC 29229 on Tuesday, October 29th at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to a charity of one's choice in memory of Lars. His legacy of bravery, loyalty, and kindness will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
