Lorene Bell Whalen

Funeral services for Mrs. Lorene Bell Whalen will be held at Levels Baptist Church on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2:30pm with Rev. Larry Scales officiating. Interment will be private. Mrs. Whalen, 88, of Aiken, died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Anchor Health and Rehabilitation, Aiken. Memorials may be directed to the Leukemia Foundation 107 Westpark Blvd. Suite 150 Columbia, SC 29210 in memory of her granddaughter, Kimberly D. Whalen.

A daughter of the late General Bell and Rosella Cushman Bell, she was born in Aiken and had worked as the secretary for the superintendant of Aiken County Schools during the late 1950?s- early ?60s and then moved with her husband to Long Island, NY. While there, she worked as the secretary to the general manager for H. M. Stevens at Belmont Park, NY for over twenty years. In 1984, they moved back to her hometown. Lorene was a long time member of Levels Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Robert L. Walden, Sr.; three sisters, Alma Lemon, Gertrude Apone and Edna Griffith; a brother, Oakley Bell and a granddaughter, Kimberly Whalen.

She is survived by her son, Robert L. Whalen, Jr. Aiken, SC and two grandchildren, Robert L. Whalen, III and Deana Rae.
