Loretta Bartley Gibson

Loretta Bartley Gibson, 86, of Saluda, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026. Born on January 2, 1940, in Saluda, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Monroe Wilson Bartley and Pauline Rodgers Bartley.

Loretta lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and a deep love for her family. Helping raise a farm in Saluda County, she developed an appreciation for nature that remained with her throughout her life. She had a special passion for flowers and gardening, possessing an extensive knowledge of plants and taking great pride in cultivating beautiful gardens. She also enjoyed cooking, especially baking cakes for family and friends, and was known for sharing her talents and hospitality with those she loved.

A licensed beautician for many years, Loretta enjoyed meeting people and formed countless lasting friendships throughout her career. She loved shopping and never missed an opportunity to help someone in need. Among her fondest memories were weekend trips to the mountains with her sister, returning home with fresh apples, corn, and stories from their adventures together. Above all, Loretta cherished her family and found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Carl O. Gibson (Kathy), Curtis D. Gibson (Debra), and Brian A. Gibson (Kendra); grandchildren, Kirk Gibson, Kaitlin Courtnay (Stan), Brianna Shealy (Dylan), and Allie Gibson (Anthony); great-grandchildren, Ridge Courtnay, Waylon Shealy, and Eleanor Shealy; sister, Harriet Ridgell (Billy); sister-in-law, Sandra Blount; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 44 years, Carl Rufus Gibson, and brother, Andrew Wayne Bartley.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock on Thursday, July 30th, at Bethany Methodist Church, 631 Bethany Rd, Saluda, with Pastor Mark English and The Reverend Dan Bradley officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 until 11 o'clock in the social hall. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel, is assisting the family.
