Maria Elana Shull, 58, of Gilbert, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, just one week shy of her 59th birthday. Maria was born on June 29, 1966, in Columbia, SC, to Elaine Cornicelli Smith and James Woody Shull. With a profound dedication to her work, Maria excelled in her career as a data entry specialist with the SC Department of Vocation Rehabilitation. Her meticulous nature and attention to detail were well-respected by colleagues and friends alike. Beyond her professional life, Maria was deeply engaged in community and cultural organizations, reflecting her passion for history and heritage. Maria's love for preserving and celebrating history was evident in her active participation on the board of the Lexington Museum. Additionally, she was a proud member of both the State Museum and the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of Maria's favorite pastimes was leading Cayce River walk tours, where she relished the opportunity to educate and share her enthusiasm for local history. She also enjoyed traveling to historical sites and engaging in crafting, which allowed her creative spirit to flourish.
Maria is survived by her beloved mother, Elaine Smith (Everette), and her five brothers: Kirk Shull (Stacey), Shawn Shull, Woody Shull Jr., Brad Shull, and Keith Shull. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her family, friends, and community will deeply feel her absence.
The service to honor Maria's life will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, July 12th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
To honor Maria's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Lexington County Museum, 231 Fox Street, Lexington, SC 29072. Her legacy of celebrating and preserving history will live on through their continued work.
