Batesburg

Marilyn Jean Corder, 79, of Batesburg, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025. Born in Batesburg, South Carolina, she is a daughter of the late M.C. “Amos” and Jewell Senterfeit Heyward. She was the devoted wife of the late Carlisle Vance “C.V.” Corder.

Marilyn was a member of Providence Baptist Church of Gaston, where she was recently baptized by her pastor, Rev. John Fredrickson. Her faith was a source of comfort and strength in her life.

She deeply loved her family and cherished every moment spent with them. Whether she was enjoying a steak dinner or a trip to Red Lobster, Marilyn simply loved going out to eat and sharing meals with those she loved. She continued to care for others even in her later years, helping to watch over her best friend’s grandchildren after her passing.

Left to treasure her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Turner (Gregg) and Regina Elders (Billy); her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Turner (Kara), Ashley Sebastiano (Jim), and Allison Gulledge (Caleb); as well as her great grandchildren, Parker and Everleigh Turner. Also surviving are her cherished dogs, Keno and Ranger; and her grand-furbabies, Axel, Clemmy, Cricket, Dottie, and Gator. In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her siblings, Leon Heyward, Kay Derrick, Sandra Heyward, and infant siblings, Randall and Linda Heyward. She was also preceded in death by her faithful fur companion, Kody, and grand-furbaby, Attie.

A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 12, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, with Rev. John Fredrickson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM.
