Batesburg

It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Marilyn Gray Reid Grace, 82, of Batesburg. Mrs. Grace was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to so many whose warmth and generosity touched all who knew her.

Born to Annie R. Gray and Andrew Jackson Gray Sr. on May 2, 1943, Marilyn grew up in Anacostia (Washington, D.C.), where she attended Abraham Simon Elementary School and Charles Hart Junior High, later attending Suitland High School in Suitland, Maryland.

Marilyn’s strong work ethic and kind spirit guided her throughout her career with Pepco, Lock Screen, Eastern Airlines, CNS Bank, and HFA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Bernard Grace, and her siblings Ronald Gray, William “Huffer” Gray, Janet Wilcock, and Connie Gray.

She is survived by her devoted son Randolph Gene Reid; her son, Richard Reid; her granddaughters Brianna Nicole Reid and Maren Grace Reid, Carley O’Neill, great granddaughter Charlotte O’Neill; her brothers Milton Gray and Stanley Gray; and a host of extended family who love her dearly.

In retirement, Marilyn found great joy and purpose through service. She was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart Unit 402 in Columbia, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 28 in West Columbia, and the VFW in Batesburg, South Carolina. She gave her heart and countless hours to supporting veterans and volunteering in her community. Her deep passion and talent for quilting and needle point garnered multiple first place ribbons for her entries at the S.C. State Fair.

Marilyn will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to serving others. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her father at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
