Mary Groom Wells Fowler

Mary Groom Wells Fowler, 79, of Aiken, entered into rest on Monday, January 5, 2026. Mrs. Fowler was born in Auburn, New York, a daughter of the late Jason and Lillian Slade Groom.

Mary was the owner of Wells Tax Services, where she faithfully served her clients for many years as a dedicated tax preparer. She also worked as a dispatcher for Wells Trucking and served in food service within the Aiken County school system during her career. Above all else, Mary’s greatest love was her Lord and her family, including her cherished Fowler family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lanier Fowler; children, Jason Wells (Marcie), Eileen Drum (Marvin), Lorie Alkema (Eddie), Wendy Kinard, Loretta Serago (Jeff), and Ellen Turner (Phillip); step-children, Travis Fowler (Michelle) and Tracy Hutson (Ricky); eighteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, George Groom and Fred Groom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Daniel Wells; her sister, Norma Kopp; and a grandson, Phillip Kinard.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Town Creek Baptist Church, with burial immediately following in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Rev. Clint Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon. Active pallbearers will be Roy Drum, Cameron Alkema, Wesley Kinard, Brandon Kinard, Ryan Hutson, and Michael Hutson. Honorary pallbearer will be Jaxon Fowler.
