Michael Patrick Long, 65, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away at his home on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Michael was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on March 1, 1961, the third of four sons born to Eugene Peeples Long and Lorraine Moore Long. He grew up alongside his brothers, Eugene Jr., Kenneth, and Marvin, graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1979, and spent most of his adult life in Greenville.
Michael was a lifelong South Carolina Gamecock fan who closely followed the Gamecocks through the years. He had a good sense of humor, enjoyed joking and laughing with those around him, and had a stubborn streak that those who knew him well will remember.
Michael cared deeply for his family and took great pride in his children, the adults they became, and the lives and families they built. He encouraged them to pursue their goals, make the most of their opportunities, and believe they were capable of accomplishing whatever they set their minds to. He enjoyed the times his children returned to Greenville, often sharing a meal and catching up on their lives.
Michael is survived by his son, Daniel Long and his wife, Brittany; his daughter, Lauren Long; his grandchildren, Vaughn Long and Rhett Long; his brothers, Kenneth Long and his wife, Cyndi, and Marvin Long and his wife, Beverly; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his brother, Eugene P. Long Jr.
The graveside service for Michael will be held at 11 o'clock on Thursday, August 27th at Greenlawn Memorial Park with a reception to follow at the Oyster Bar Columbia, 1123 Park St., Columbia, SC 29201.
