Nancy Williams

Nancy Rowell Williams, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 96. Nancy was born in Centenary, South Carolina, on November 13, 1929, to the late William Eugene Rowell and Mildred Smith Rowell. She will be remembered for her strength, quiet determination, and courage throughout her illness. She never complained and faced life's challenges with remarkable grace.

Nancy loved reading a good book and kept an extensive journal of her favorite titles. She was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching them play on television, passing that love of sports on to her children. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she found great joy in baking cookies, cakes, and other treats to share with family and friends. She also loved to sew and was an exceptional seamstress, making all of her children's clothes while they were growing up.

A lifelong member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, Nancy faithfully served her church family by teaching the 2 and 3 year old Sunday School class for many years and assisting in the church office.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Ann McKay and Barbara "Bobbi" West Gregory; son, David Eugene Williams; grandsons, Robert McKay, Jr. (Karen) and Mason Gregory (Lauren); seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha "Betty" Isabel McDowell and Mary "Marty" Carla Mayer; and her brother, William Malcolm Rowell.

A memorial service to celebrate Nancy will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26th, in the chapel of Washington Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the family.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Fairforest Grove Senior Living and Your Health for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Nancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice in Nancy's memory.
