Ollie Lee Johnson Mitchell, 86, of Batesburg, left us unexpectedly to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Born in Aiken, SC, to the late Otis Lee and Maggie Johnson, Ollie was a woman of fierce strength, endless love, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. A faithful member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, she lived a life of service, always putting the needs of others before her own.
“Mama Ollie,” as she was lovingly known, had a way of making everyone who crossed her path feel cherished. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and love and her door was always open. She had a rare gift for making each child she cared for feel loved and valued deeply, knowing that they each held a special place in her heart. A true matriarch, she was the heart of her family and a beloved pillar to all who knew her.
Ollie is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Russell Aldene “Dene” Mitchell; her son, Wayne Mitchell (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Meredith Mitchell Pooser (Bert); grandchildren, Tory Mitchell (Jessi), Kristan Hydrick (Brandon), Riley Mitchell, and Walker Mitchell; and her great-grandchildren, Callen, Ava, and Cohen. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Ann Cromer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Allen Mitchell, and her sister, Nina Shumpert. Ollie’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family. She touched countless lives and though she has left this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will be cherished, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
