Paul Steve Mathis, 76, of Leesville, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Born in Blue Ridge, Georgia, he was a son of the late Jack Paul and Mary Magdalene Millsaps Mathis. He was a member of Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church in Orangeburg.
Paul enjoyed taking long walks, traveling, and cruising with family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan and faithfully cheered on both the Clemson Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, creating memories they will forever hold dear.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Mathis; children, Rhonda Kunkel (Matthew), Jody Mathis (Jim Robinson), Amanda Martin (Jason Trice), Jessica Queen (Michael), and Bryan Martin (Kendra). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dylan and Cory Kunkel, Jace (Kora), Tuesday, Trent, and Natalie Queen, Brayden and Cruze Martin, Austin and Hunter Craig, Jim III, and Burns Robinson; and his great grandchildren, Oliver and Avett Queen. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Mathis; and sister, Diane Mathis.
The funeral service for Paul will be held at 1 o'clock on Wednesday, August 5th, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel, with the Rev. Ben Langdale and Bryan Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or online at Alzheimer's Association , in memory of Paul.
