Rev. Virgil Leon Bagwell, 82, of Leesville, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was born in Laurens County, SC, a son of the late J.W. and Claudia Edwards Bagwell. Virgil, first and foremost, loved his Lord and Savior and lived his life leading others to Christ. He was a devoted husband to Darlene for 44 years. Virgil's children, grandchildren, great grands, great great grands and his church family were his pride and joy. He worked hard all of his life, as a professional brick mason, beloved pastor and church planter. He founded and pastored Full Gospel Tabernacle for 25 years and later founded and pastored B-L Congregational Holiness church for approximately 15 years. Virgil loved fishing, working on cars, spending time with his family, but most of all, he loved leading people to Christ. For all that knew him, either a long time, or if you just met him for the first time, his legacy for following Christ was his desire for everyone. Amen.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Darlene Caudle Bagwell; children, Belinda Anderson, Sandy Chapman (Bruce), Marty Bagwell, Randy Bagwell (Elaine), Tina Storey (Jeff), Joe Bagwell (Frances), Michelle Sanders (Marc); 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren with two on the way; and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and his church family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings and a son, Eddie Hall.
The funeral service for Rev. Bagwell will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 6th at B-L Congregational Holiness Church with burial immediately following on Maroney Hill, 615 Dixired Road, Leesville, SC 29070. Rev. Clyde Hardin ,Rev. David Cockrell and Rev. Marc Sanders are officiating the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 5th at B-L Congregational Holiness Church. Active pallbearers will be: Jim Hall, Greg Hall, Chris Bagwell, Korbyn Hallman, Easton Hallman, and Braydon Hallman. Honorary pallbearers will be: Blake Parham, Joe Needham, Jay Hallman, Bill Moore, Caleb Eby, and Ryan Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to help offset funeral expenses or B-L Congregational Holiness Church, 147 Dickert Drive, Batesburg, SC 29006.
