Richard Dean Manter

Richard Dean Manter, 74, of Irmo, SC, formerly of Aiken, SC, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Born on July 23, 1952, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Frances Horton Whitney Manter and Frank Irving Manter, Jr. Richard enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was an avid Carolina Gamecock football fan and had a deep appreciation for classic cars. He also enjoyed spirited and highly competitive games of croquet with family and friends. Known for his quiet nature, Richard was a private person who preferred to keep to himself, yet those who knew him will remember his unique personality and the passions that brought him joy.

He is survived by his nephew, Matthew Manter (Emily); niece, Megan Manter; great-nephew, Stuart Manter; and great-niece, Abigail Meadows. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Stuart Manter, Bruce Manter, and Douglas Manter.

The graveside service celebrating Richard's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2648 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Graniteville, SC 29829, with Pastor Clint Smith officiating. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, is assisting Mr. Manter's family.
