Sfc Richard Melvyn Davis

December 5, 1935 — February 17, 2020

AIKEN, SC- SFC Richard Melvyn Davis, US Army (Ret.), entered into rest Monday, February 17, 2020.

Mr. Davis was born December 5, 1935 in New Castle, Delaware to the late Myrtle Davis and Lester Bristow. He proudly served his country for over twenty years. He was first in the US Marine Corps and served most of his time in active service in the US Army, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). While in the military, he served during the Vietnam War. He had made the Aiken area his home for over the past forty years. He graduated from Aiken Technical College with a degree in accounting. He retired as an account’s manager from CMI. Mr. Davis was a member of Mercy Church and enjoyed metal detecting, reading, telling stories, and writing short stories.

Survivors include his wife twenty-two years, Joyce Bazzle Davis; three daughters, Sandra Williams, Gaston, SC, April Current (Trevor), Bowling Green, OH, and Jessica Horton (Robert), Port Charlotte, FL; a son, Jim Davis (Jenny), Aiken, SC; two step-daughters, Tammy Garrett and Nikki Griffin (Joseph); grandchildren, Coley Williams, Deanna Williams, Jessica Cordell, Stephanie Adkins, John Garrett, Jacob Griffin, Oaklee Griffin, Parker Griffin, Tia Current, and Mattie Collins.

The family will receive friends beginning 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at George Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service beginning at 3:00 pm in The George Funeral Chapel. Pastors Kenny Murphy and Billy Hill will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens with military honors. Pallbearers will be Jim Davis, Joseph Griffin, Coley Williams, Brad Williams, James Swenson, and Trevor Current. Jacob Griffin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 W Evergreen Ave, Chicago, IL 60642.
